Virgin America Travel: Summer Deals, Sneaky Fees and In-Flight Parties

May 19, 2008 at 4:30 PM | 0 Comments

YAY: Virgin America has announced some new "Summer Loving" fares today. Flights from SFO to New York are $179 each way; same with flights from LA to New York. SFO to LA has dropped to $59 each way, and SFO to San Diego is even cheaper at $49 each way. All the details are here.

BOO: While cutting fare prices, VA has decided to bump up the walk-up upgrade fees for first-class seats and exit rows on their long-haul flights. Previously, a first class seat from LAX to JFK or vice-versa could be bought for an additional $175 at check-in. Now that goes up to $250. Exit rows with more leg-room used to be an additional $30. Now it's $50. You can read the full details on the extras here.

ALRIGHT! The airline has also announced "Superfly Wednesdays" where passengers on the afternoon flights get complimentary cocktails both in-flight and at a participating bars in the gateway cities of LA, San Fran and Vegas. There are only a few Wednesdays left: May 21 and 28 and June 4, 11 and 18.

BUT WAIT! We actually flew VA from JFK to LAX last weekend, and just as they were about to shut the cabin doors, an announcer did a "Welcome to Virgin America" speech and mentioned a disco-themed party on the airline's red-eye flights.

We've yet to see anything on these parties and we're really hoping they don't happen. After all, we need sleep on those flights. Here's hoping that this was just a little confusion of the timing of those Superfly Wednesdays.
