What's Inside the Simpsons Ride at Universal Studios?

April 9, 2008 at 3:43 PM | by juliana | 1 Comment

It's kinda hard for us to get excited about the Simpsons Ride opening at Universal Studios on May 17 because to open this ride meant closing down the totally awesome Back to the Future ride.

Still, we should be happy that replacement is something equally iconic. (We just wouldn't go for, say, a Snakes on a Plane experience.)

The LA Times' Daily Travel and Deal blog has some deets on the ride which is housed in the old BTTF ride structure and has the same motion simulator concept.

Krustyland--"the Krustiest place on earth"-- is the setting for the ride, and visitors enter the ride through the clown's gaping mouth. From there, people are put in funhouse holding rooms where they observe some of the "rides and shows" at Krustyland.

But then Krusty "handpicks" a group to experience the newest ride at his amusement park. Guests climb aboard the Krustymobile and that's when the real ride begins:

But rather than head through the swinging dark ride doors before you, an unseen scissor lift below the vehicle raises you 10 feet in the air. The motion-based platform tilts the vehicle forward, backward, up, down and side-to-side as you carom recklessly through all of Krustyland and eventually Springfield.

All your favorite Simpsons characters make appearances. Of note: Itchy and Scratchy run the safety video. And for the BTTF geeks, there's something you will like here: An animated Doc Brown makes a cameo.

    Best Idea ever

Finally. It took long enough to make a movie, now the Simpsons have their own ride! This will make any fanatic go and take a trip to FL.  What haven't the Simpsons made: video game (check), movie (check), real life house (check), soundtrack (check).
