Movie Set Travel: Leatherheads

April 4, 2008 at 9:18 AM | by sedona | 0 Comments

This week we offer you the movie that will make everyone happy. "Leatherheads" combines a romantic comedy with football, almost unheard of previously.

George Clooney plays Dodge Connolly--yeah, we know, dumb name--who's trying to take his 1925 pro football team to the championship. He recruits Carter Rutherford (John Krasinski), an American college football star and war hero, to save the day. An enterprising journalist, Lexie Littleton (Renee Zellweger), trys to uncover Carter's war hero story, and in the process become entangled with both men.

Of course there are tons of sassy remarks and retro references, and something tells us Clooney's character isn't far from who he really is...

"Leatherheads" was shot in some of the prettiest parts of the southern US, so in that vein we offer you some cool things to check out in Charlotte, North Carolina:

Where To Stay: Morehead Inn An elegant Southern estate, the Morehead is filled with cozy antiques and rich with history. Once the private home of Charles Campbell Coddington, it opened to the public in 1984 and remains booked with private events. Guests are spoiled with a huge homey breakfast served on china every day.

Where To Eat: Mert's Heart and Soul One of Charlotte's most authentic dining destinations, Mert's (short for Myrtle's) offers dishes like Charleston red rice, shrimp creole and fried catfish. If you have a Sunday to while away, be sure to hit it up for brunch.

What to See: The Mint Museum of Craft + Design Get in the crafty spirit and head to this showplace for contemporary crafts. They've got everything--ceramics, glass, fiber, metal and wood--and a cool 40-foot tall glass wall too.
