Shopping with Classic NYC Movies

With the release of the "Sex and the City" movie, a new wave of tourists is poised to enter the Big Apple with one question in mind: Where would Carrie shop? But she's hardly the first person who has looked at the fleet of taxis and seen a shopping-bag-friendly mode of transportation.

Of course with the influx of cheap-chic mall stores like H&M and Forever 21, New York trends reach the rest of the country much faster than they used to, but there's nothing like indulging in a little retail therapy in New York. Let these movie scenes get you started:

Tiffany & Co., as seen in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "Sex and the City." Fully 90 percent of the foot traffic in this grande-dame store on weekends is comprised of curious tourists, not engagement-ready moguls. Still, even if you can't afford the wares, window shopping is free. (BYO croissant.) 727 Fifth Ave.

The St. Mark's Place Stalls, as seen in "Desperately Seeking Susan." Need a spare pair of crazy socks, a lighter that proclaims your adoration of marijuana or some CBGB-branded apparel? Okay, the vendors who clutter the sidewalk with their wares aren't to everyone's tastes, but with enough digging you can find some hidden treasures here. East 8th Street btw 2nd and 3rd Avenues

Henri Bendel, as seen in "It Could Happen To You." Lottery-won dollars burning a hole in your pocket? Pick up something stupidly expensive at this boutique department store, frequented by the ladies of "Gossip Girl." Then again, they have their parents' platinum cards to use. Maybe you do too? 712 Fifth Ave.

Pageant Print and Book Store, as seen in "Hannah and Her Sisters." Elliot (Michael Caine) falls even deeper in love with his wife's sister when she drags him into this dusty bookshop, with all the bewitching charm of Audrey Hepburn's place of employment in "Funny Face." These days it's actually Pageant Bar & Grill. Take your books purchased at the nearby Strand (12th and Broadway) and meet your secret crush over at the bar. 109 East Ninth St.
