You're not really down with roughing it but could warm up to the idea of volunteering in an exotic country? Enter Hands Up Holidays; it's 4-star travel with a purpose.
We first mentioned these guys a few months ago when they were organizing a pre-Mardi Gras trip to rebuild the bayou, with accommodations in a funky French Quarter hotel and ticket to a black tie gala included. Now eight new itineraries are up on their revamped website. Two in particular caught our eye.
Help and Honeymoon in New Zealand:
It's an 18-day Kiwi escapade where pro-social meets post-nuptial pampering. You'll fly above the land of the long white cloud in a helicopter, heli-hike Franz Josef Glacier, pictured, get your sea legs on an America's Cup sailboat and enjoy heaps of wining and dining--it's your honeymoon, after all.
Only problem is that the price tag might end your marriage before it even gets off the ground. (Just $25,000 plus the cost of flying halfway around the world!) You might have a chance of making up as you pitch in to help out at a Maori organic farm.
Going for Ghana:
If that's a little steep for ya--or you aren't getting married anytime soon--maybe a trip to Africa would suit? A 15-day excursion to Ghana includes plenty of wildlife viewing and beach chilling, mixed with four days supporting HIV/AIDS awareness programs. The $2,875 price doesn't include international airfare, but it covers just about everything else.
