Spring's the perfect time to start that clandestine love affair, but where to kick it off? Why, a speakeasy of course. These little, lesser-known spots offer the perfect mix of fresh cocktails and cozy corners ensuring no one will find you--unless of course you want him to.

They're also spreading like wildfire throughout NYC and proving excellent antidotes to the loud, large bars of the past.

Feel like you're stepping back in time and go down the stairs to Little Branch on the corner of 7th Avenue and Leroy. The drinks are expertly mixed by suspender-clad bartenders, and the rules of the old school apply: no loud yelling or bad, unruly behavior and you may have to be patient about getting in. But it's all worth it after you slide into a retro booth or better yet, sidle up to the bar with your sweetie.

Angel's Share is a slice of civility in the East Village, tucked on the triangle of Stuyvesant Street, off 3rd Ave. It's not easy to convince your date it's that romantic, as you'll have to tromp through a Japanese restaurant to get there.

But once inside, it's a haven of tranquility with a picture window. They keep it quiet by not seating groups larger than four--a rule that's strictly enforced. If you're hungry you can indulge in tasty Japanese snacks, too.
