Cliched Drug Travel: Snorting Coke in Colombia

April 1, 2008 at 1:33 PM | 3 Comments

Hey, did you hear about all the great coke in Colombia? It's becoming the point of trips to the country rather than a sideline, says The Guardian:

It's hardly shocking that some travellers in Colombia can't resist trying the country's most famous product, but it seems the drug is becoming a tourist attraction in itself. Just as you try steak in Argentina and caipirinhas in Brazil; in Colombia, you sample the coke.

Backpackers are doing lines in their dorms, signing up to visit cocaine factories and word is going round that somewhere in San Augustin lies a place where you can make your own.

True enough. It's on the road to the Ciudad Perdida.

Of course, The New York Times was all over this trend way back when. Remember the sophistonauts? Totally into blow!

    WOW

OMG just wow at this. My whole family is from Colombia and they would be very angry if they were to see this. It's crazy though, I get that all the time; drug jokes that is. And why would any tourist want to try cocaine? I thought tourism was about visiting the sites and beauty of whatever country...and come on people, they shouldn't be sniffing cocaine, they should be trying our delicious coffee! :-)

    Colombia known for the drugs

I agree! I love Colombia for the people and the country side, i think this is blown out of proportion - you want to try something amazing in Colombia?? Try the JUAN VALDEZ COFFEE!!!!!

    Colombia

Encouraging drug tourism to Colombia serves just one purpose - and that's the assistance of terrorists. Poor on you for contributing to it.

BTW, Kapof has far higher quality coffee than Juan Valdez.
