It May Be Too Late For Hawk-Killing Golfer To Apologize

Last December, Tripp Isenhour was shooting his film "Golf Like A Pro" at the Grand Cypress Golf Club when a squawking red-shouldered hawk disrupted the film shoot more than once, causing them to have to re-shoot some scenes. According to reports, the golfer then decided to make a game of hitting a ball at the hawk, first from 300 yards away, then from 75 yards. The 10th ball Isenhour hit killed the endangered hawk.

The bird is protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and Isenhour is facing 15 months in jail plus $1,500 in fines on two misdemeanor charges.

According to the AP, Isenhour issued a statement saying he was only trying to scare the bird away and is mortified that the bird died. He was formally charged Wednesday.

Definitely a lesson for golf tourists worldwide. A map of the golf course is embedded after the jump.

I'm not from PETA...

...but the man said "I'll get him now" TO A BIRD. Golfers, you really need to lighten up; nature will intrude on your game whether you like it or not. If you can't take it, consider Wii Golf instead.

Lying golfers

I agree - if you can't stand Mother Nature, why are ya outside?!?

And I'm not from PETA either, but come on folks, the guy doesn't accidentally kill a bird when he tries 10 times to hit it.

Not only is he a bad lier, he's pretty damn poor golfer too!

I would think that someone of his experience ...

... wouldn't intentionally hit a ball toward anything other than a flag stick.  When I was a middle schooler I hit a ball, toward a house not thinking I'd ever get the ball there and ended up paying for a window.  The lesson: don't hit toward something unless you're OK with actually hitting it.

Sadly rdmcgeorge

I think the fact that he kept aiming until he hit it means he was OK with hitting and killing a bird. (for fun/convenience not food, not that I do either)

The GG article Julia posted says that he was annoyed at the noise it made while he was concentrating and had 9 chances to realize what an ass he is, before hitting it on turn 10.

Perhaps he should consider

Audubon International's Green Golfer pledge. They work to create safe spaces for birders and golfers to mingle...
