Where to Stay: We prefer the bed-and-breakfast route when staying in the Hudson Valley, and White Plains is no different. Located outside the town, Soundview Manor hosts guests in a 1920s mansion. Basic double rooms with private baths start at $175 a night. (Keep in mind that a two-night minimum stay is required for weekend travelers.) More expensive rooms are available--penthouse, anyone?--with the priciest clocking in at $325 per night.
If sleeping inside a mansion isn't enough, take advantage of Soundview's proximity to some of the Hudson's most famous estates, including Sunnyside, the former home of Washington Irving, and Kykuit, above, one of Nelson Rockefeller's many former homes. His famous motto--cash rules everything around me--still holds true in the decadent home.
Where to Eat: Keep up the air of wealth at Blue Hill at Stone Barns. The Hudson Valley outpost of the original Blue Hill restaurant, located in NYC's Greenwich Village, serves up gourmet dishes by the set menu. A three-course meal is $65, a four-course $78 and the "Farmer's Feast" is $110. Make sure to check out the restaurant's surrounding (working) farm and scenery before and after you throw down your Benjamins.
Getting There: New York's Metro-North line runs to White Plains daily. The 40-minute one-way trip is $14. From the White Plains MTA station, take a cab to your destination.
