A Place We Would Have Wanted to Visit Back in 1984

If only we were six years old again....
In 1984, a Cabbage Patch Kid doll was like the only doll we ever wanted. Our mom once got in a fight at a Toys R Us over the last Cabbage Patch doll on the shelf.
So it sort of saddens us that as we were perusing Jezebel that we discovered Baby Land General Hospital--only 25 years too late. Or does it?
BabyLand is where Cabbage Patch Kids are "born" and you can tour the birthing facilities in Cleveland, Georgia about 75 miles northeast of Atlanta. It's actually more like a museum where the older babies "born" in the late 70s and early 80s "await" you in the father's waiting room when you first enter. Yeah, it sounds kinda creepy.
This place is actually full of the original Cabbage Patch Dolls, not the ones that Mattel ended up making (the ones we used to have), although the place does sell the Mattel versions which are slightly smaller and have a vinyl face.
The rest of the hospital/museum has a newborn nursery, a preemies care room, an elementary school, a Christmas room and a huge playground full of Cabbage Patch Kids. But what scares us most is this bit:
When you hear the words, "Dr. report to delivery, we have a Mother Cabbage in labor", hurry to the Magic Crystal Tree to witness a delivery.
And don't even get us started on the BunnyBees who determine a baby's sex or Mother Cabbage being "dilated 10 leaves apart."
That said, should you want to relive your youth or maybe you have kids of your own and want to buy them a Cabbage Patch kid, the hospital is open every day.
It's also free, until you end up buying Cabbage Patch Kids and the accessories to accompany them.
