Skybus Flight Review: A Quick Trip to the Gulf Coast

February 25, 2008 at 12:00 PM | by pbb | 0 Comments

The never-ending debate about Skybus is whether your dirt cheap ticket is worth the hassles and fees that almost always get tacked on. If you're flying a family of four between Greensboro and "New Orleans," a copy editor for the Charlotte Observer says it's certainly worth riding the 'bus.

John Nalley just jetted down to Gulfport, Mississippi with his wife and two kids. All-in, the family spent just $131 per passenger to get there, buying tickets a mere 11 days before travel. (That total doesn't include the gas for the 80-mile drive between his house and Piedmont Triad International.)

The flight itself sounds just like any other, except for a noticeable lack of legroom and a couple of advertisements over the speakers. And flying into and out of smaller airports was no trouble at all:

The Web site says the airline saves money by keeping the planes on time, because they're avoiding the congestion of major airports. The airline also touts that passengers can get in and out of smaller airports faster, which in our case, was true. We breezed through security at both locations and didn't have to fight any crowds.

Our take? Sounds like a fairly good trip, made even sweeter by a $524 price tag.
