British Airways Still Luggage Losers

February 22, 2008 at 10:00 AM | by amandak | 4 Comments

Another British Airways lost luggage story? They seem never ending. So too, it seems, is British Airways' ability to lose our luggage.

With final 2007 luggage handling statistics being released this week, we can see that BA really went above and beyond this past year, losing 26.5 bags per 1,000 during 2007, three and a half bags more per 1000 than in 2006. To be fair, British Airways wasn't the worst offender--TAP Air Portugal lost 27.8 bags per 1000--but if you look at passenger numbers, BA certainly did the worst of all, mishandling a massive total of more than a million bags.

BA spokesbots had all kinds of excuses for their poor performance. Problems at Heathrow airport that were out of their control and the regulations on carry-on luggage share the blame, they say. Whatever the excuses, the odds of British Airways losing your bag are considerably higher than those of winning the lottery, so don't pack your scratchers ticket in your checked baggage.

    BA still losing luggage

Arrived in Edinburgh on a flight from T5 yesterday. The terminal was too hot, the security queues were ridiculous and the flight was late.

But on arrival at Edinburgh the farce got worse.

Standing at baggage carousel 4 as indicated by the sign for BA1458, some baggage handlers eventually removed unclaimed bags from somewhere. (I overheard mutters about BA from the handlers and can only assume that they were dealing with bagaege that did not belong in Edinburgh. )

After 20 minutes I got fed up and went to see the BA Baggage office.

"From the London flight sir?" the clerk responded. I confirmed. At which point he said something along the lines of the bags were on carousel 6. I queried why the displays said carousel 4, and went to tell the other passengers.

Maybe this was just an isolated f-up.

Or maybe it was typical of an organisation that seems to be very good at flying planes, but pretty useless at other essential basics.

    lost baggage claim

Is anyone else having trouble getting British Air to pay for lost baggage? We keep getting ridiculous automated email denials on our lost baggage claim. They don't dispute that they lost our bag. They just refuse to provide us with any compensation for their loss of our belongings. Any advice would be much appreciated!

    Baggage Claim

My Family Travelled to SFO on 1-Jan-09 and noticed one bag was missing out of 6.It's been 2months that we have raised for Claim and couldn't see any progress coming up and atleast no response is coming up from British airways, inspite of sending many reminder emails.Another funny thing is that BA Customer Relationship do not have Phone number to contact and only means of contacting them is by email or by Fax.I really got fed up and finally decided to deal with legal proceedings. In this regard, appreciate, if any one had such experience in the past and dealt successfully with BA, pl share your experience and tips for my claim to get through ASAP
