Oscar Movies Map: Into the Wild Old Country

The Oscars are back on, and we're celebrating with a series on the New York City locations you might've seen in this year's nominated films. Our Oscar Movies Map will be your golden statuette.

While we've been focused on the Oscar nominees shot in New York City, we can't forget that there are plenty of travel-inspiring films up for awards that weren't shot in Gotham.

The Coen Brothers thriller "No Country for Old Men" garnered eight nominations, including one for Javier Bardem. Shot in Big Bend National Park and Marfa, the stark West Texas landscape is all over the Oscars this year.

The Daniel Day-Lewis vehicle "There Will Be Blood" also filmed in Texas, though the movie is set in turn-of-the-century California. While Marfa provided the backdrop for some scenes, the cast and crew also shot at El Mirage Dry Lake in the Mojave Desert. (You might remember the lake from the video for that God-awful Shania Twain song "That Don't Impress Me Much.")

And we can't forget the travel movie of the year: "Into the Wild." The sort-of tragic tale of Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch) and his trek into the Alaskan backcountry has inspired a surge of visitors to Denali National Park. The Fairbanks Convention and Visitors Bureau even printed up new guides with warnings about the dangers of setting off into the wilderness alone.

    "Into the Wild" tourism

The McCandless bus has become an inconvenient tourist attraction for Alaska, with people hiking in 12 hours to find it and write their names on it.  Several people had to be airlifted out, which cost the state $2,100 each time:

I think many oscars will get Coen Brothers with "No Country for Old Men"
