New Routes: Virgin America Eyeing Cabo

February 20, 2008 at 9:53 AM | by | ()

If the US Department of Transportation approves Virgin America's latest request, Richard Branson will have yet another thing to celebrate with San Diego Chargers Cheerleaders. The upstart low cost carrier has filed to fly from LAX to San Jose del Cabo.

Frontier Airlines announced earlier this month that it was giving up this particular California-Mexico segment, which means another airline can step in to fill the gap. The DOT gets to pick who it'll be, and United and Delta have also applied for the route. You'd think after all the grief the government gave ex-CEO Fred Reid, the DOT owes the airline this favor.

It would be Virgin America's first international route and part of a big expansion coming up this year. Says Jaunted commenter herz, Chicago, Boston and Miami are all in the cards for 2008.
