Merger Mania: Delta Deal Could Be Announced Wednesday
February 18, 2008 at 11:04 AM | 0 Comments

We may finally get to stop speculating on whether Delta and Northwest will get in bed with each other. The Delta board is planning to meet on Wednesday and will likely come to a conclusion on a deal.
But that won't mean NWA and Delta will be combining operations, like, next week. Any deal will likely get a massive review by anti-trust lawyers. (When United launched a bid to take over US Airways in 2000, the review took more than a year and killed the merger.)
Meanwhile Congressman James Oberstar, who chairs the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, is trying to stir up political opposition to a deal. Writing in BusinessWeek, he says "Hell no" to airline consolidation, again arguing that the deregulated industry needs government oversight.
For a deal that hasn't even been announced, this is already looking like a long, messy and drawn out merger.
