Yes Man

December 19, 2008 at 9:00 AM | by pbb | 0 Comments

The elastic faced Jim Carey is back for another ridiculous series of comic shenanigans with "Yes Man," out in theaters today. Carey plays an ordinary guy stuck in a rut--until he starts saying yes to everything on the advice of a self-help guru.

While reviews have been mixed, we wouldn't expect a fine piece of high art from the director of such cinematic classics as "The Break-up" and "Bring It On," Peyton Reed. But we'd rather escape the snow and cold by spending a few hours with Jim Carey than a hand-wringing Will Smith in "Seven Pounds."

"Yes Man" was shot around Los Angeles, and in the spirit of going for it, we've picked out some adventurous once-in-a-lifetime activities there.

Go Bungee Jumping:
Bungee America has rigged jumps for countless TV commercials, shows and movies, and they're the only outfit in California that's allowed to operate from a bridge. They cheekily call it the Bridge to Nowhere, a name you might appreciate after the two-hour hike just to get to the jump site. Once there, go all out with the "Extreme Package" of five jumps, doing flips and swan dives about 40 miles northeast of LA in the Angeles National Forest.

Learn to Fly Helicopters:
Flying Cessnas is for chumps! At Los Angeles Helicopters, you'll be at the controls within an hour, flying an R22 above Long Beach Airport and along the coast. While the basic 30-60 package--a half hour of classroom instruction and an hour of flying--will get you in the air, you can go big by getting your private helicopter pilot license: It takes a combined 87 hours of on-the-ground and in-air training and costs just over $20,000.

Become a Boat Captain:
You could just take the basic classes at the California Sailing Academy, but that wouldn't be very "Yes Man" of you. After logging some serious sea time and building your skills, you can sign up for US Coast Guard captain's license classes, the most basic of which will allow you to take as many as six paying passengers out for a day of fishing, diving or whatever else you have in mind.
