Retreat, Retreat! NYC Snowed In
We really thought we were going to get out of LaGuardia fine until the snow started. It wasn't exactly surprising; New York weather teams have been going ape over a potential winter storm since at least Monday, but they've been wrong before. (Cf. every day we canceled beach trips last summer because of predicted thunderstorms.)
It'd barely started coming down before our flight was canceled. With the 800 number on redial and the airline's website unable to find our previous reservation (?#%@!), we crossed back through security and got in line to get our checked bag and rebook. No tickets Saturday, no tickets Sunday... It's a marshmallow world, this sticky morass we are sinking into.
Judging by the relative calm at other gates, we're guessing we were one of the first flights to be canceled leaving New York. (That's because our destination has already gotten 12 inches of snow. Yep, 12.) All we could think when we pulled away from LaGuardia in a cab was, all you people have no idea what's about to hit you. That includes the guy who claimed we "broke" his computer when we accidentally tripped over its power cord. Hope you get stuck in Council Bluffs, Iowa for Christmas, ya big jerk.
