Dear Aussie Government, Please Save The Clownfish

Where: Australia
December 11, 2008 at 9:30 AM | by amandak | 4 Comments

When is the Great Barrier Reef not so great?

When the Australian government decides to make carbon emission reduction targets that aren't low enough, at least according to a bunch of environmental campaigners.

Global warming is threatening Aussie tourism icons like the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland and the Northern Territory's Kakadu National Park, which is why the year-old Aussie government promised major moves on climate change. Activist group GetUp is pretty disappointed at the lack of progress; they say emissions targets need to be more drastic to ensure tourists will still have somewhere to visit in the next few decades.

    Saving clownfish......

Just thought I'd leave a comment on this. I share the same concerns that many Australians have over the serious potential impacts that human-influenced climate change may have on the Great Barrier Reef. I can also understand the hesitancy of the Australian government....do you join the leading nations in the effort to solve this problem, or do you join those sitting countries sitting on the sidelines. Let's hope that with a change of attitude in the United States that a strong international agreement will encourage all countries to make economic sacrifices aimed a solving a global problem. By the way, the Great Barrier Reef is currently one of the healthiest reef ecosytems in the world, although Global Climate Change is a serious threat on the horizon. good to know ...

... that the Reef is at least not in too bad a condition right now. Agreed, let's hope things look up soon - it's a tricky problem to solve ...

    Every government

Every government out there should make an effort to significantly lower their carbon emission. Hopefully the Aussies will take the lead.

    Stop the madness!

People, "global warming" and "climate change" are not being caused by humans and certainly not by C02. 30,000 scientists are currently suing Al Gore for the lies and misrepresentations in "An Inconvenient Truth".

Many of those 30,000 are ALSO part of the 2,500 used by the IPCC (Inter-GOVERNMENTAL Panel on Climate Change) which is where the ludicrous notion was first given a semblance of scientific credibility. Those scientists say that the UN control freaks started with a solution (taxing everyone in the west for their evil "carbon footprint", further de-industrialise us and bring us to heel like the 3rd world) and then paid the scientists to create the problem which needed their solution. Many of them refused to go along with junk science but found their names and credentials being added as a part of the 2,500 anyway!

We need to tell government to shut up with their fear-mongering and excuse-for-more-taxes-and-regulations shtick! Just like we should be telling them that the stupid "Ali-Baba and the 40 Boogie-men" story has been de-bunked and we don't want to pay for their wars for British Petroleum's/Dutch Royal Shell's/Halliburton's/KBR's/Blackwater's profits!
