On 7th Birthday, TSA Attempts To Explain Its Reason For Being

November 19, 2008 at 5:34 PM | by pbb | 5 Comments

The TSA was created seven years ago today, and the agency is celebrating with three new public service announcements and a special web page dedicated to answering the question: "Why?"

You know, as in "Why do I have to take off my shoes?" or "Why do I have to show ID?" or that perennial favorite "Why do I have to to put my three ounce liquids in a zip-top plastic bag?" (We probably don't have to tell you that the answers are less than satisfactory.)

Still, at least the TSA is trying to prepare travelers for what to expect at checkpoints as the busy holiday travel season approaches. Given that the rules keep changing, a little reminder for those less traveled than us might make everyone's trip to the airport a bit smoother.

Check out all three clips after the jump.

i watched all three and it's silly.

wow. these do NOTHING to answer any of my TSA questions. also, it's really funny how the TSA is just getting around to creating videos and putting them on YouTube. Really, that's like so 2006.

Why is she making that funny face?

Oh wait, that's a SMILE. On a TSA employee it just looks so unnatural!

    Theatrical Trailers

These are great! It makes me eager to fly again so I can participate in the live INTERACTIVE theatrical production entitled "Security at the Airport". With an all-star cast of actors who look like they actually don't give a damn about security! I would like this show to be nominated for a Tony.

Ya Put Up A Fight, Ya Ain't Gettin' On the Flight

I think the SNL skit had Mena Suvari in it as a TSA agent. Any question - legitimate or otherwise - was a direct challenge to the agent's authoritaah. Just like in real life.
