I'm Like An Angry Cow

Chasing Racers is back, with a brand new Amazing Race 13 mashup. This map will update the morning after every new episode. Send along tips, rumors, gossip, locations and spoilers to our map editors, become a member and comment on the stories below and add to the Jaunted-Flickr photo pool to get in on the fray.

Remember to zoom in, out and around on the map--with so much happening in each episode, it's easy to miss a map point.

Well, race fans, we're down to only a handful of teams. Having lost Kelly and Christy last week, the remaining pairs must gear up for a very competitive finish. But having claimed four first-place finishes, will anyone be able to stop Nick and Starr?

Ken and Tina made unbelievable gains last week: Will they be able to continue forging ahead, or will they succumb to the bickering and divisiveness that has plagued them in the past? Only five teams remain. Who will have the strength and wits to fight through to the end and claim the million dollar prize? More importantly, who makes it to the end of this episode?

LET'S FIND OUT!

THE RACE:
Teams must fly more than 1,000 miles to Almaty, Kazakhstan. Once there, they will travel by taxi to a chicken farm, where they will receive their next clue. Nick and Starr hit the road first, with Toni and Dallas right behind them. Even with four first-place finishes, Nick worries about staying out in front. Dallas worries that the only thing he knows about Kazakhstan is Borat.

Nick, Starr, Toni and Dallas all end up at the travel agency together. Dallas and Starr take this time to do a little extracurricular flirting. Dallas says he hopes to win the million dollars so that he at least will be able to pay for dinner. He is obviously musing about life after the race--one that includes Starr, or maybe just dinner. Regardless, we are all happy that the racers are finally leaving India. No offense, but let's go already!

There are three flights to Almaty. Lufthansa arrives first with Nick and Starr, Toni and Dallas and Ken and Tina. Terence and Sarah end up on the second flight connecting through Moscow, while Andrew and Dan catch the third flight via Dubai. It doesn't really make a difference at all: All of the teams end up in a classic Amazing Race pileup at the chicken factory. It doesn't open until 7:30 am, so even Andrew and Dan manage to make it. In fact, once the gates open, Andrew is the first person to reach the clue box. We've never seen him move this fast before, but clearly the boy can move.

ROADBLOCK and FAST FORWARD:
Teams must search among 30,000 chickens for one of seven golden eggs. Once the egg has been found, teams will receive their next clue. This is also the second of two Fast Forwards on the race. If teams choose to do the Fast Forward, they must travel by taxi to a restaurant where they will participate in a Kazakh feast featuring the fat from the rear end of a sheep. Just the thought of it is enough to make us gag, but we do love our gross eating challenges! Nick and Starr and Terence and Sarah decide to go for the Fast Forward and leave the chicken factory.

Toni is the first person to find a golden egg, and she and Dallas snag their next clue which directs them to take a giant crane truck to the Koktobe Arch. Once there, they follow a marked path until they encounter Mongol warriors and wait for their next clue to arrive via a large bird of prey; we think it's a falcon. Andrew and Dan are next, with Ken and Tina in third.

Over at the Fast Forward, teams are facing a gigantic platter full of barf-inducing brown meat. They must eat the entire serving before winning the right to go directly to the Pit Stop. Uh Oh! As it turns out, Terence is vegetarian! Never fear, though, he puts aside fifteen years of tofu for the prospect of winning a million clams. Bad idea. Not even halfway through, he has to quit. He and Sarah head back to the Roadblock, leaving the guaranteed first place finish to Nick and Starr, who, by the way, have managed to scarf down all that sheep butt without puking. We're impressed! Nick and Starr head directly to the Pit Stop.

DETOUR:
Linked to Kazakhstan's long history of folk arts, teams may choose Play Like Mad, where they will learn to play two traditional instruments and then go to a park and play for tips. Once teams earn the equivalent of $1.50, they will receive their next clue. In Act Like Fools, teams make their way to the Children's Puppet Theatre where they will dress up in a cow costume and walk the streets until they find a marked stall and drink a glass of milk. Then, they will head over to the Zelyoniy Bazar to find a marked butcher stall where they will receive the next clue.

Toni and Dallas gear up in their cow outfit and hit the town mooing. They find the milk stall quickly and head over to the butcher. Ken and Tina find the milk stall, but instead of reading the clue, decide to go back to the theatre to get rid of their costume. Unfortunately, teams need their cow costumes for the rest of this leg, something they figure out once they reach the butcher and have to backtrack.

PIT STOP:
This week, it's the Old Square, a public plaza in the historic section of the city. Nick and Starr clinch their fifth first-place finish and each win wave runners. (Those come in real handy in NYC, we hear.) Toni and Dallas come in second with Ken and Tina moving up one notch into third. Andrew and Dan make it to the mat in fourth, but misread their clue and took a taxi, so they are sent back to redo that portion on foot.

OUSTED:
Andrew and Dan beat the odds and make it back before Terence and Sarah, who are eliminated.

NEXT WEEK:
Andrew and Dan are rhythm challenged, while Nick and Starr hit a bump in the road. It's still anyone's race at this point. Will Toni and Dallas close in on the lead? Can Andrew and Dan keep from bumbling into elimination? Will Nick and Starr be able to hold onto their hard won lead? Tune in next week for all the answers and more!

    bumbling

It is great to read this clever review every Monday. I look forward to the hour when I can log on. Well, Andrew and Dan are amazingly lucky bumbling idiots . No matter how hard they try to lose the race they manage to bumble their way into the end slot! So long "newly dating" Sarah and Terence---he did say some pretty swell things about her at the end. Who knows, they may be the real winners.

Kazakhstan is the greatest country in the world

Sorry, I can never NOT reference Borat when it comes to Kazakhstan. So this was the episode where all the good tasks were hiding. I was surprised Terrence and Sarah were surprised at the Fast Forward - has there ever been a season where the weird food challenge didn't involve sketchy meats? Still, I LOVED the cow detour.

ACK!!! I am still gagging over the gross food challenge. Anything that is served still on the skull is disgusting. I wouldn't have made it through, that's for sure!
