Brit Posing as Spaniard in Tokyo Vies for World's Worst Tourist Title

We've debated for years about who to call the World's Worst Tourists. Germans? Brits? Aussies? All of the above?

This week, the international incident award goes to Spain the UK*, whose citizen dove into the moat around the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. Even better, the guy proceeded to flail around like an obnoxious gaijin:

The middle-aged man jumped into the water, climbed the palace wall and splashed water at police who tried to catch him from a row boat.

Oh, yes, it gets better...

The man then charged at police with a pole and rock while a huge crowd including journalists watched. After a chase that lasted two hours the police eventually seized the man.

Police say that it is unclear what his motives are and they believe that he may be mentally unstable, Reuters news agency reports. Local media say that he claims to have dropped a bag in the water which included his passport.

No doubt, relieved Americans stood nearby, grateful for the distraction. Only one more month until they no longer have to answer the question "Why'd you vote for George W. Bush?" while traveling abroad.

* UPDATE: After earlier inaccurate reports, it turns out this guy is British and was traveling with Spanish pals. We'll be chalking up another point for the UK in the continuing World's Worst Tourists competition.

    Sorry to burst your bubble here jaunted, but.... he is ENGLISH, he told the police he was spanish, but he later admitted he was english.

    If you can't trust the English press to report accurately on its own terrible tourists, who can you trust?

    Well BBC news is often full of crap they report news without knowing the facts.. and did you see the photo of the guy? a fat whiter than white bald guy haha.
