Anti-Meltdownomics Travel: Retail Therapy in London

When we're looking for quirky, unique stuff for our teeny apartment, we could drop mega-bucks at Anthropologie, or we could take an amazing trip to London instead and hit up some of the city's best, secret housewares spots.

Forget Portabello Road--sure, it's fun to go to and haggle while there--but instead head to Alfies Antique Market on Church St. in Marylebone. Open Tuesday-Saturday, Alfies has everything from jewelry to bar ware to vintage fashion to perfume bottles. Make sure you set aside a whole morning to comb through its four levels.

More of an outside type? Head to Petersham Nurseries (above) on the outskirts of town in Richmond. The potted treasures are set up in three ridiculously perfect English greenhouses, making you want to buy everything. They've got fruit trees (quince anyone?), wildflowers, bulbs and tons more. Take a breather at the cozy on-site teahouse or restaurant too.

If clothing's your game, don't miss the ubiquitous Topshop which can be found all over town. Yep, you can get the Kate Moss line here, but also some of the lesser-known collections like Scout, Boudoir and Punk Couture too.

Happy Splurging!
