Amazing Race 13: Do You Like American Candy?

October 6, 2008 at 8:30 AM | by Todd | 2 Comments

Chasing Racers is back, with a brand new Amazing Race 13 mashup. This map will update the morning after every new episode. Send along tips, rumors, gossip, locations and spoilers to our map editors, become a member and comment on the stories below and add to the Jaunted-Flickr photo pool to get in on the fray.

Remember to zoom in, out and around on the map--with so much happening in each episode, it's easy to miss a map point.

Welcome back, race fans! When last we left our favorite racers, they were on a mandatory rest period in Salvador, Brazil. We're down to just ten teams, having given the beekeeping hippies the old heave-ho.

Will Nick and Starr continue to dominate with their athleticism and mental prowess? Will struggling exes, Ken and Tina, make a breakthrough in their relationship? Can Ken control his wandering eye, or will Tina just poke it out with a sharp stick?

Most importantly, who will manage to make it to this week's Pit Stop and get that much closer to the million bucks?

THE RACE:
Teams must fly to Fortaleza, Brazil. Once there, they must take a taxi to the town of Cumbuco, where they will find their next clue. As winner's of the first leg, Nick and Starr are first off the mat, followed by Ken and Tina and the bickering Terence and Sarah. Terence is bonked in the head when the taxi driver tries to close the trunk, and he seethes at Sarah immediately, like it's her fault.

At the airport, Ken and Tina end up first in line at the airline counter. Of course, all the teams pile-up behind her, making the playing field relatively even. In the midst of begging the agent to get them on a nearly sold-out earlier flight, the airline changes aircraft, and can now accommodate more passengers.

Tina is happy to point out to anyone who will listen that she alone convinced the airline to get a bigger plane--and that all the teams owe her. Convinced that she will be welcomed to the front of the line like a queen, she and Ken don't bother sprinting to the gate. Instead, they just cut in front of everyone who got there before them. This douchebaggery causes some ruffled feathers, especially with Terence, who is rocking a Pebbles Flintstone ponytail. After a few tense moments and some icy exchanges, Ken and Terence eventually retract their claws and kiss and make up--literally.

Once in Fortaleza, teams get taxis to Cumbuco. Anthony wastes time trying to get a disabled taxi started while lots of teams motor past. Look, genius, grab one that works and get to your next clue! Once in the seaside town of Cumbuco, teams must get on dune buggies and zoom down the beach like Speed Buggy--Roger Dodger! Teams make their way to Barraca D Manoel, where they receive their next clue.

DETOUR:
Beach It: Teams must move a small traditional Brazilian sailboat 100 yards down the beach by rolling it over small logs until it reaches the water. Docket: Teams must find a hidden shipping container at the Port of Pecem. They must match codes on the clue with a shipping manifest, which will reveal a section of the shipyard to search. The next clue is hidden inside the correct container.

Mark and Bill pull a total Nerd Herd and head over to the Port to do Docket. Clearly, the only way out of this needle in a haystack challenge is with the help of big brains or big boobs--and fortunately, they have both. All of the other teams head to the beach for the more physical challenge. Terence and Sarah make quick work of it, and finish first with a sizable lead over the others.

Teams must now take a taxi to Parque De Vaquejada where they will find the next clue. Terence and Sarah go sprinting down the beach, missing all the markers, and head in the wrong direction. They find themselves way off course and completely irritated with each other. Terence seriously considers getting an ice cream, but Sarah yanks him back into reality. Other teams start to zoom past them in taxis, and only Dallas and Toni stop to offer help, pointing them in the right direction.

Back on the beach, the divorcees, Kelly and Christy are digging in the sand looking for a container. What they don't realize is that they are reading part of the instructions for the other Detour, making Brooke and Marissa look like nuclear physicists. Finally, they realize their mistake and head for the taxis.

ROADBLOCK:
In Plain Sight: Team members must search a long, painted wall for their next destination. The wall is filled with advertisements and text in Portuguese. Seriously, a wall? Is this what the AR producers meant by "exhilarating new challenges"?! Team members must test their answers with a painter who will give them their next clue.

PIT STOP:
It's Cidade da Criança in Fortaleza, Brazil. Ken and Tina edge out Mark and Bill for first place, and win matching off-road vehicles, which Tina will get as part of their divorce settlement. Even after falling behind, Terence and Sarah manage to pull a third place finish, guaranteeing us all one more week of their shenanigans.

OUSTED:
Anthony and Stephanie arrive last and are eliminated. We always hate to see charmers like this leave so soon, but at least Anthony has a lot to be thankful for, "my health, my parents, my looks--and Stephanie." Well, at least she knows where she ranks. Hey, good luck with that whole getting married thing!

NEXT WEEK:
You won't want to miss this exciting episode chock-full of altitude sickness! Also, check out Ken who appears to be wrestling his own dignity while wearing Underoos. That alone is worth tuning in for!

    Next week looks.....

much more exciting than this past week. Maybe they should have grabbed a few cartons of Mate de Coca! That does help with altitude sickness, if you are prone to it. But then again we wouldn't get to see them suffer through now would we? I don't know about you but the challenges seem a little lame right now. Are they purposefully easy b/c of the cluelessness of the contestants and if so why not raise the bar on the application criteria before chosing contestants? Or maybe it's the altitude causing ditzy spells...Come on how could you misread a clue THAT badly!

    Love it!

I've always loved "The Amazing Race," but these recaps make the show for me! Not only are they a great companion guide, but the intelligent wit/humor is fantastic! I don't mind Monday mornings so much with this article to look forward to! Thanks!
