NYC Taped by Aakash Nihalani

People in New York City may have noticed weird geometric shapes popping up all over recently. Looking like escapees from an alternate, pixelated video game world, the colorful cubes, rectangles and squares act as highlights to the cityscape.

Artist Aakash Nihalani is the mastermind behind these tape-based artworks, and his simple aesthetic has a deeper meaning than just decoration, he explains:

We all need the opportunity to see the city more playfully, as a world dominated by the interplay of very basic color and shape. I try to create a new space within the existing space of our everyday world for people to enter freely, and unexpectedly "disconnect" from their reality.
