Celeb Dining Travel: Three Mexican Restaurants in New York Better Than Dos Caminos

Dear Madonna and A-Rod: We understand you had dinner last night in New York, a fact that we don't find particularly untoward let alone damning for your marriage (M) or your divorce (A). But why, oh why, did you choose Dos Caminos?

A weak and watery margarita and a surly waitstaff are not our idea of an enjoyable dining experience! In fact, it's probably there that John Mayer chose to break up with Jessica Simpson because of her lame taste in Mexican restaurants.

Take our advice and try one of these for your next night out:

La Palapa: If the mango margaritas hadn't won us over, the fresh gazpacho and mushroom quesadillas would have. 359 Sixth Ave.

Mercadito: Same bite-sized portions as Dos Caminos, but each is packed with a symphony of flavors; we love the ceviche tastings and the grilled pineapple and chile-rubbed-pork tacos. 100 7th Ave S.; also in the East Village at 179 Avenue B

Toloache: Proximity to Broadway theaters is the prize for this tucked-away cafe offering fresh fruit guacamole and lobster tacos. 251 W. 50th St.
