The Jaunted Redesign

October 27, 2008 at 8:35 AM | by | Comments (5)

Welcome to our shiny new bicycle. We're super excited about the new look and feel of Jaunted, but the makeover doesn't mean we're going to stop bringing you news and opinion from the bleeding edge of travel and pop culture.

Here's how it all works: You'll find the three freshest stories front and center, played large like they deserve. Lower on the page, you can navigate by section, by region or country or by a Google domain search. Below the fold, you'll find more recent stories arrayed in a grid with an option to see more by clicking Next.

You'll also see two stories parked on the sidebar of the home page that are either super popular, racking up comments or are otherwise worthy of front door play. Clicking on a particular headline will get you that story, along with links to some related stories--as well as four more items you might enjoy. It's all designed to help you navigate the nearly 10,000 travel and pop culture posts on Jaunted.

B-t-dubs, if you notice anything wacky, won't you please let us know at tips@jaunted.com? Our tireless redesign team did their very best, but maybe you'll notice something we missed.

Ugh!

Ugh! I'm willing to give the new redesign a try, but my initial impression is I hate it! I like the old linear approach, with the newest story on top. I usually check the site 2 or 3 times a day, and it was so easy to navigate and know what I'd seen before. Plus, I could read all the stories on a single page without additional clicks (unless there was a story that I wanted to read more about, where I had to click the "More" link).

Looks nice, but why fix something that wasn't broken? I also found the classic version very easy to use. I'll give the new version a chance before passing final judgment.

Jaunted redesign II

Now that I've been through the site, I do like the larger format. I notice that hitting the "next" button at the bottom of the home page presents following stories in the old linear style. Very good. Minor quibble: Can we get a "next" button on each home-page story that lets scroll through each item without returning to the home page? My comments and suggestions also apply to your sister site, Hotel Chatter. Final verdict: The information (and snark) you present is too valuable to give up. Although it's change I didn't need, it's change I can live with.

@ Phamer55

Couple things:

1. The top story is still the latest story -- the flow goes from center top, into the grid, and then onto page 2 (when you click NEXT).

2. We were all very use to the old style too, trust me, but give it a couple days then see what you think. There are now actually more stories you can scan on the home page than every before (14 instead of 8).

Thanks again for the feedback, appreciate it.

Great job
