For a Week at a Time, and Never See Eye to Eye

October 27, 2008 at 9:30 AM | by egw | 4 Comments

Hey, they're head to head! The real candidates won't be spending any time in London in the next eight days, so their Madame Tussauds' head molds will just have to do.

So where is John McCain going to be now that the end is in sight? According to the LA Times, the Republican from Arizona will be focusing on swing states that Bush won in 2000 and 2004, like Ohio, where he rallies his supporters in Dayton today, and Virginia, where vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin makes stops in Loudon County, Fredricksburg and Roanoke.

Just like in the big-budget Disney movie we are trying not to mention any more, it's "Now or Never" for McCain: He was on the trail a full 18 hours Sunday, making several stops in another battleground state, Pennsylvania, to praise the patriotism of small-town America and declare his wife's fitness to be First Lady. On "Meet The Press," he told Tom Brokaw, who was bearing poll numbers showing him behind in Iowa of all states, "We're doing fine. We have closed in the last week."

After stepping off the trail for two days, Barack Obama is still pursuing a modified version of his 50-state strategy while showing extra love to the swing states. He spoke to a crowd estimated at more than 100,000 people in Denver Sunday, in a state Bush easily took in the last two elections. He'll be hitting Ohio and Virginia as well in the next few days, and also making stops in Pennsylvania and Florida.

Joe Biden, whose remark about Obama's preparedness for a terrorist attack has become the subject of an anti-Barack attack ad, visits some small towns in the early-voting state of North Carolina today.

You Decide - Straight Talk and Media Bias?

Title: "Straight Talk From Fred Thompson"

Thompson: You got a few minutes?

It's time for those of us who are concerned about our nation's future to focus on what's at stake in this year's elections.

This is a time of great challenge for our country.  We know that somewhere in the world our worst enemies either have, or are trying to get their hands on, the most dangerous weapons known to man.  Small rogue nations are developing nuclear weapons and threatening our allies.  Large nations are engaged in massive military buildups.

At home we are girding for the possible onset of a recession. If this wasn't America, I might be worried. But very soon we will go to the polls and set a path that will determine how we respond to these challenges.

It'll be a decision that we'll make not only for ourselves but very possibly for generations to come.

John McCain's entire life has been devoted to defending those principles that made our country great.  His life has been one of duty, honor, dedication, sacrifice.

He's been involved in every major domestic and foreign policy issue for three decades and has fought to reform Washington in ways that would change our country for the better.

Responsible change is the essence of conservatism.  We must change in order to preserve what's best about our country.  We've always been able to accommodate constructive change without turning our back on our first principles.

    We must do it again.

However, that does not include staking everything upon the eloquence and inexperience of one who has towed the extreme liberal and partisan line his entire political life, as much as he tries to blur that fact now.

This is the choice that we have in this election.  Let's hope that for our nation's sake that we choose well.

    Thank you.
    Fred Thompson

Media Bias Report and Action Committee Support.

The media's coverage of the 2008 Presidential candidates
is recklessly skewed. Left unchecked and unchallenged, it
    could taint the election process!

The Media Research Center just released a 7-month
study of morning news shows and found the networks
are giving nearly twice as much airtime to Democratic
candidates. Even worse, these segments actively promoted
    the liberal agenda.

In other words, the networks aren't even trying to
    hide their bias!

I have just signed a national petition launched by the
Media Research Center demanding balance in 2008 election
coverage, and am urging you to do the same by
    clicking here: http://www.mrcaction.org/506/petition.asp?PID=18606458&NID=1
(Note: You can access the full MRC Report, "Rise and Shine
on Democrats," by clicking on the above link.)

The MRC is mobilizing 100,000 citizens over the next 30 days,
and will present the petitions to the media as soon as our
    goal has been reached.

Please take a moment to add your name: http://www.mrcaction.org/506/petition.asp?PID=18606458&NID=1

    Thanks for joining with me.

    Hey Mr. Everitt

What ever happened to ol' Fred Thompson, anyway? He'd be a great candidate for our new travel series, "Former Possible Presidents: Where Are They Now?"

    I agree it's spam-ish...

But the second we delete one side's comment, we'll get more hate mail than usual. I'm giving this one a pass since it's so obviously out of place, it just ends up looking silly.
