Get Bowled Over by BAM
Break the bounds of Broadway with our coverage of the Brooklyn arts scene.
The two buildings of Brooklyn Academy of Music may not be as recognizable as Lincoln Center, but the institution known as BAM provides a similar cornucopia to Brooklynites: No matter what you're into, the theaters and galleries comprising this world-class arts center has it, while actually predating the existence of its Manhattan cousin by over 100 years.
Our picks at BAM this week: The experimental multi-camera film "Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait" plays at the Cinematek; the "Faces of Tillie's" photo exhibition shows neighborhood life in Fort Greene; the stage unites the words of two 19th-century greats in "Darwin's Meditation for the People of Lincoln" and kids celebrate Halloween Friday at the BAMboo! street festival. If you're staying in Manhattan, consider taking the BAMbus ($7) to your show for better scenery than you'll see on the subway.
