Embarrassing Smurf Stunt Yields Free RTW Trip

To mark the 50th anniversary of the Smurfs--and drum up some sales--a costume shop employee went on a three-week, round-the-world tour, snapping photos in front of famous monuments while dressed in a Smurf suit, riffing on the old traveling gnome gag.

Despite having to dress up in a ridiculous costume, the 25-year-old pseudo-Smurf was happy to volunteer:

I thought it was a great idea. I was going to see some countries that I had never been to before and all I had to do was wear the costume.

But it was one thing to suggest the idea, and another to stand in front of these famous monuments wearing it.

While the shop was just hoping to clear out its excess Smurf suit stock, it ended up generating so many sales with the stunt it had to order thousands of new ones--which gives us an idea about how to finance our next RTW trip...
