Are you ready to expand your palate? Put down that steak and look beyond the salad plate at the world's best vegetarian restaurants.

"Wholesome, hearty and hunger-defeating": That's how Time Out London described a stew at Riverside Vegetaria, an ethnicity-defying vegetarian restaurant in Kingston-upon-Thames.

As one of the first places on earth to have a vegetarian movement--as early as 1849, local plant eaters could subscribe to the local "Vegetarian Messenger" to meet like-minded diners--London has an embarrassment of riches for veggie diners. But Riverside Vegetaria also boasts "the biggest dessert menu in Britain" according to the UK Times, as well as glorious river views and an ever-rotating organic menu. Those Brits know a good thing when they see one.
