Possible Presidents Travel: Live From New York, It's Sarah Palin

October 20, 2008 at 3:43 PM | 0 Comments

She came, she saw, she let Amy Poehler do the work: Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin waves to reporters while holding baby Trig outside the "Saturday Night Live" studios in New York. In case you've been living under an Alaska-shaped rock, watch the governor watching Tina Fey and declining to rap.

Certainly more ink was spilled on her primetime appearances than anything else the McCain campaign did this weekend, including an appearance in Joe the Plumber's backyard of Toledo, Ohio while Joe himself was appearing on Fox's new variety show "Huckabee." (Yes, as in former Republican primary candidate Mike Huckabee.)

McCain later invoked a few of his other friends at a Westerville, Ohio stop, naming them Rose the Teacher, Phil the Bricklayer and Wendy the Waitress. We only wish we were making this up.

McCain spoke in St. Charles, Missouri this morning and crosses the state to speak in Belton this afternoon. But he'll have to jockey for attention: Due to the stars' mis-aligning, Missouri is hosting not only McCain and Huckabee but also Vice-President Dick Cheney (in Clayton and Cape Girardeau) and, across party lines, former President Bill Clinton in the St. Louis suburb of Kirkwood on behalf of the Obama-Biden campaign. That's all tonight. Hope no one out there is planning to fly out of Missouri ahead of Air Force 2 through 20.

Obama himself is stumping in Orlando, Tampa and Miami, Florida today in honor of early voting in the Sunshine State. The polls are now open, and Hillary Clinton is coming along too to rally the voters--although she probably can't pull the lever for you. (That's got to be illegal, right?) Joe Biden has the day off.

The big news in the Dems' camp over the weekend was that former Secretary of State Colin Powell endorsed the Democratic candidate but at this point isn't expected to join any Obamas or Bidens on the road.
