National Parks Travel: Snowmobiles Back at Yellowstone?

October 2, 2008 at 3:30 PM | by kjb | 0 Comments

Although a judge previously shot down plans to allow snowmobiles into Yellowstone National Park this winter, officials are now at work on a different plan to allow the rides in time for snow season.

The LA Times reports today that the park is working on a new agreement in hopes that things can be put in place before December 15. In the past, snowmobiles and snow coaches--multi-passenger vans set on skis--have been allowed in the parks.

Under the Bush administration, motorized vehicles have been allowed to travel the winter terrain, although some conservationists are concerned that it adversely effects the native flora and fauna of the park. The new plan should be ready by next month, at which point both sides can argue about it during a 15-day comment period.
