Competitive Fall Travel: Conk 'Em Out in England

No one ought to get so angry he or she wants to hit things. But if you are, beeline to Ashton, England for the World Conker Championships, a battle royale with a twist: Men and women compete on the field of conkers, a traditional game played with horse chestnuts and string.

Conkers is a great way to take advantage of the millions of horse chestnuts which drop off trees in the UK every year. After boring a hole through the chestnut and threading a string through it, competitors take turns bashing each other's nuts (tee hee!) until one nut is broken. Tangled strings can get you an extra hit if you shout "strings" before your opponent; drop your conker and the other person could step on it and end the match.

Unfortunately, the conker championship entries are closed for this year, but you can still visit as a spectator for £4 ($7). In case childhood games are not your scene, you can also watch morris dancing, learn to juggle or dance the samba on the championship grounds in Northamptonshire.
