Interactive Advertising Travel: Emirates Wants You to Star in Their Movie

October 11, 2008 at 10:35 AM | by Victor Ozols | 0 Comments

Emirates, the Dubai-based luxury airline with onboard shower spas and private first-class suites that are bigger than our apartment, has rolled out an ambitious interactive marketing campaign to promote the launch of its new Dubai-to-Los Angeles service. In honor of the Middle East's newest bridge to Tinseltown, the airline is making a short film, and it wants you to star in it. Entitled The Exposure of Tom King, it's a comedic thriller that - surprise surprise - plays on the theme of celebrity, with appearances by an actor consumed with vanity, a shameless paparazzo, a conniving blackmailer, and her bumbling boyfriend. The twist here is that the film has already been shot, only without actors.

Aspiring thespians are encouraged to memorize their lines (example: "You won't get away with this! You'll see! Nobody does this to Tom King!"), act out their scenes in front of a webcam, and upload their best takes to the film's website. The winning actors will be chosen by fancy Hollywood casting director Avy Kaufman. The film's producers will then blue-screen them in to the final cut in time for its premiere on Friday, November 7, 2008.

It doesn't look like the actors get any money or even a trip to Dubai for their efforts, but it also doesn't appear to be too much work either. There are seven parts to cast, and none has more than a handful of lines, so it might be worth twenty minutes out of your life for the chance to appear in a "Hollywood" film. Next stop, late-night infomercials.
