Tippy's opened five years ago and has quickly become the hot restaurant on the island. The decor is very relaxed beach style. But the real beach style, not the Pottery Barn fabricated type with silver painted seashells and wicker baskets full of coral. No, Tippy's is just a casual spot comprised of interlocking open-sided gazebos opening out to a back patio overlooking the beach. Indeed, you are just a step (not steps) away from the pink Bahamian sand.
Inside diners sit at wooden tables and benches made from old shutters and the long bar is made from weathered wood of an old dock. Despite, the low-pro ambience, the food is spectacular. Defined as casual elegance the menu consists of your favorite appetizers like garlic bread, french onion soup, and salads while entrees change daily (i.e. everything is super-fresh). The fish specials of course are not to be missed but you can even get a good ole' cheeseburger here if you so desire.
Another bonus? The place has had a celeb draw. Lenny Kravitz dines here, as does Patti LaBelle who's played songs at the piano. Matthew McConaughey and Mariah Carey have both hung out at Tippy's (separately.) But Tippy's is not some rowdy Hollywood hotspot. To us, it felt like the perfect place to drink Kaliks all day long. Or margaritas...or white wine...or anything alcoholic really.
