Want to spice up your sex life without landing in a seedy porn shop or a swinger's club? You can do it with class (literally!) at Babeland, a women-owned sex shop chain with two locations in New York.
When we headed to the Soho store for their first workshop of the year called the "Big O." We admit that we were a little, uh, gun shy. (Remember that Sex In The City episode where the girls attended a sex class only to witness a live demonstration of how to pleasure a man?) How the heck was Babeland going to teach a group of strangers how to have better orgasms? Would they make us share our sexual issues in front of an audience or--oh God, no!--ask for volunteers to illustrate techniques?

Thankfully none of the above happened: The class was more like high-school sex education meets self-help. And, unlike the sex ed classes we were forced to endure as teenagers, this was all about how to have good sex instead of how to stay abstinent.
Dallas, the not-a-porn-star sex educator leading the lecture, gave an anatomy lesson complete with detailed diagrams. And while no real people were used to demonstrate maneuvers such as how to find your G-spot, a vulva puppet was passed around to help illustrate the point. Seriously.
If anything, the solid tips on how to let go of distractions to get in the mood hit home in a roomful of over-scheduled New Yorkers. After the lecture, the shop stayed open so students could consult the sex educators one-on-one while browsing through everything from candles to Pocket Rockets.
Babeland also has a LES location on Rivington that offers free events every month. Upcoming classes include Blindfolds and Bling Craft Night, Erotic Cooking Workshop and Boudoir Superstar: How to Strip for Your Lover. Prices range from free to $40.
