Travel Green Above Queensland's Rainforest

When the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway was built to take tourists through the rainforest to Kuranda, in Queensland, back in 1995, locals protested about possible environmental damage to the rainforest. It is, after all, a World Heritage Site.

But the Skyrail has just achieved a Green Globe Gold Certification for its excellent environmental performance, so the critics have probably been quieted for a while. There are only 18 groups worldwide who have achieved such a rating, so the Skyrail is definitely doing a good job at protecting the environment.

If you want to check the green credentials of Skyrail yourself, a ride will have you floating above the rainforest in a 6-person gondola for about 1.5 hours, longer if you take the return route. We've got no doubts that it must be an eco-friendly project: All you can see is green!
