Project Runway Map: From the Port Authority to the Runway

FINALLY! The cast of Project Runway 4 gets to leave their apartment building for a true field trip--outside of Mood Fabrics and the Parsons School of Design.

Tim shuffles the kids into a van and takes them over to Brooklyn to a Port Authority garage on the East River.

The challenge? Race into a filthy warehouse and retrieve as many Levi's 501s as possible, along with one-yard bolts of white cotton fabric and stuff them into a laundry bag. They'll then create an:

iconic denim look that captures the spirit of the 501 legacy

The key word, designers, is iconic. Did they live up to the challenge? Find out after the jump.

By and large, this season is starting to bore us. We actually like Christian--despite his annoying little sister type of attitude. (Example: He says, "I am going to die of barfness.") We also think some designers shouldn't be there; some should be brought back, like Kit and Kevin. Hell, they should have kept Elisa on for a few more episodes to make things a little more exciting.

Nevertheless, the designers have a bit of a struggle with the challenge despite the fact that so many of them gush over how easy it is to work with denim. Ricky is the only one who seems confident because he likes to make random trucker hats out of denim.

Sweet Pea--despite her enthusiasm for denim--gets trapped making a hippie wedding gown that makes Tim look the most horrified we've seen ever. Jillian again tries something too ambitious in too short of time--a coat. Adding to her stress is the fact that Victorya is doing a coat as well.

Christian has an innovative design but is typical Christian--some futuristic looking jacket with ruffles and pants. Rami steps out of his boundaries by using denim and creates a very chic, edgy design (he is clearly the stand-out here) but Chris suffers by trying to create a little denim dress similar to the little black dress.

In the end, Ricky wins for his killer dark-wash denim dress with gold Levi buttons down the front and a little frill at the hem. Even we would wear this.

Sadly, Victorya who is a talented designer but lacks inspiration, gets tossed for her boring coat design. See, there is a thing as being too competitive! Meanwhile, Jillian barely skates by with her "too much going on" jacket and surprisingly Sweet Pea's amputated wedding dress-turned-strapless-frock gets compliments from Kors, who calls it "chic."

We're more excited for next week because they take a field trip again, and it may involve something sexual, too. Hopefully that will spice up a dull season 4!

    yes!

So I was in-flight and watching this episode on my seat-back TV, when we got far out over the Atlantic and outside of Bravo's range (apparently). I lost the channel RIGHT as the runway began...but now I am so happy to see Victorya gone. I get skeevy vibes from her.
