RyanAir Really Wants You To Leave Luggage At Home

We thought it was bad enough when Britain-based low cost carrier RyanAir introduced charges for airport check-in and checked baggage back in August 2007. But the "low cost" part of the equation took another dive this week when the airline decided to make these charges even higher.
If you check in at the airport (rather than online), it'll now cost you £3 (up from £2), and if you check baggage as well, that costs an extra £6 (up from £5). If you're traveling with baggage, you can't check in online anyhow, so that bag's going to cost you £9 (more than $17). That's often more than the flight itself.
And it's going to get worse before it gets better. RyanAir freely admits that they're going to keep increasing these costs until at least 50 percent of its passengers travel with carry-on luggage only. Then, the carrier says, it can close check in desks and keep flights cheap. See, they're doing it for us!
