Eleuthera Travel Guide: Why Should You Go?

While we were enjoying the laid-back lifestyle of Eleuthera, we couldn't resist dropping in on the Eleuthera tourism office in Governor's Harbor. There we barged our way into the office of tourism manager Jackie Gibson and demanded she tell us why people should visit Eleuthera.

Ok, ok. So maybe Jackie was expecting our visit. But she wasn't expecting to be on-camera. Still, she managed to overcome some stage fright, ringing phones and other unexpected visitors to tell us what she loves about Eleuthera. Listen to her explain what Eleuthera has to offer to its visitors from beaches galore to the Glass Window Bridge to the constant waving of the friendly islanders.

Eleuthera's Glass Window Bridge (none / 0)

Hey Juliana!

I'm enjoying your trip reports on Eleuthera. Good stuff!

Want to see the Glass Window Bridge? I shot a virtual reality picture of it. Check it out:

Virtual photo of the Glass Window Bridge on Eleuthera.

They're actually talking about having to take down the bridge and replace it with a culvert. Seems they can't engineer the bridge to hold up to the environment.

scary! (none / 0)

thanks for the update beachnut! while i am all for nature holding its own, that glass bridge is scary. and there's like no guardrails to protect cars passing through from just careening off the sides. i also heard that when it is especially stormy, no one can go through for fear a wave might just wash your car away.

Glass Window Bridge can be a fright... (none / 0)

Indeed! Folks should seriously watch their safety when visiting the Bridge. You have to be especially careful of "rogue waves" which can come crashing in without notice.

My wife literally came within minutes of losing her life very close to Glass Window; just North of it where the ocean crashes through a very large notch in the cliffs. I chronicled the event on my blog. You can read about it here: photos and stories about Glass Window Bridge on Eleuthera.
