Just for Britney: Better Mexican Food in LA

Britney Spears caused a paparazzi circus after dropping by an Acapulco Mexican Restaurant y Cantina in Burbank Wednesday night. Right across the street from the Access Hollywood studios, she certainly couldn't have thought she'd be under the radar. But we're more concerned about her restaurant pick: Acapulco? Come on, Brit, that's like Applebees for burritos.

LA is stuffed with more Mexican spots than it knows what to do with, so we'd suggest these alternatives:

Border Grill -- An outpost of the Too Hot Tamales, Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken, this Latin spot is to LA what Rick Bayless' Frontera Grill is to Chicago: Lively, colorful and delicious. 1445 4th St., Santa Monica

La Serenata de Garibaldi -- The name makes us think of Italy, but the fresh fish tacos and gorditas are straight outta Mexico. 1842 East First St.

El Borrego de Oro -- An East LA barbecue joint tucked away in a strip mall, this is the place to mingle with some serious eaters who love their slow-cooked meat. 2808 E. Washington Blvd.
