According to American study abroad students, Roule ma Poule is one of the best restaurants off the beaten path in Montpellier. The restaurant, set in a tranquil and sunny square, is ideal for warm fall afternoons. Inside, motorbike paraphernalia lines the walls. Visitors can choose from a selection of salads and other dishes. And with a mainly student/faculty clientele from the University of Montpellier, the food is cheap.
For the authentic South-of-France experience, Hotel du Parc in Montpellier offers the most bang for your Euro.
Old-fashioned French Country design covers each of the 14 rooms, from the fabric toile wallpaper down to the 18th century hardwood floors. The family of Count Vivier de Châtelard has lived in the manor ever since it was built. Today, Claire and Françoise run the hotel.
Prices start at about €42 ($59) for a single occupancy. But book early, because rates will go up in May 2008.
