Virgin America's First Flight: This Guy Paid $5400 To Go From JFK to SFO

Who would pay $5400 for a JFK - SFO round trip for two in coach? David Loewy, the CEO of Health Providers Practice Management, who won the blind Ebay auction for two tickets on Virgin America flight number 1 yesterday.

Loewy goes by the Ebay handle hppmceo and is no stranger to Internet auctions. We sat down with David during the flight and asked the North Carolina resident why on earth he bid over five grand for the right to fly coach for six hours.

EBAY AUCTION WINNER SPEAKS

Jaunted: Why bid?

Loewy: Something to do. I am a bit of an aviation buff, a pilot, and I just love to travel.

Jaunted: What are you going to do in San Francisco?

Loewy: We will go to the Virgin party tonight, Fisherman's Wharf tomorrow, then fly out on Friday.

Jaunted: So are you impressed with the plane?

Loewy: Yeah. It compares favorably to JetBlue, who I am thinking must be one of their prime competitors. We flew JetBlue on the way up here -- they were good.

Jaunted: What is your favorite feature on board?

Loewy: The cup holders that come out of the seat tray. Very European. I saw that feature on European airlines and thought, we don't we have that in the States.

So there you have it. $5, 400 for a flight with a cup holder. Hey, people have bought cars for a lot more for similar cup holder "technology".
