The Beverly Center ain't pretty on the outside. In fact, it's quite garish but it sure is pretty on the inside. This shopping center is a must-stop in Los Angeles partly because it's hard to miss and partly because of what it has to offer.

The center recently underwent some renovations adding more designer stores as well as trendy budget stores like H&M and a hip lounge/restaurant called The Wave on the bottom floor near the central escalators.

Sure, there's still a bunch of cheesy stores (Guess anyone?) and a few eccentric ones like Traffic but as a whole, we could definitely spend hours wandering in this mall. Oh wait, we have done that.

MORE

What's worth hitting up? The Bloomingdale's gigantic jean collection for men and the Macy's contemporary sportswear department which carries Marc Jacobs, Theory, Nanette Lepore and Trina Turk--and if you know these brands like we do, you know they are not found in most Macys in the U.S.

For travel gear fanatics, there's a Kipling store and a LeSportSac. For the designer logo loco, we're sure you will find something you like at Louis Vuitton, Coach, Gucci, D&G, Armani Exchange or the Ferrari store.

If you're like us and you like knock-off fashion for less, the Forever XXI is enormous as is the H&M across the way on the third floor.

And as with every shopping center these days, there's a Mac store.

The food court offerings are kinda weird. To be honest we've only hit up the Coffee Bean and the Starbucks inside the mall. But on the ground level, there's the Grand Luxe Cafe, California Pizza Kitchen, P.F. Changs and a Chipotle (and randomly, a Bed, Bath & Beyond.)

Also can't be missed is the pet store on the first floor near the Coffee Bean. The place has tons of cute dogs, rabbits and reptiles which will make you feel all warm inside until you realize how sad and sick these caged overpriced baby animals are. Then you'll either leave in disgust or end up buying two of each.

Parking is relatively easy here and just $1 for two hours, no validation needed. Of course, everyone wants to shop at around noon on a Saturday so--as with anywhere in Los Angeles--the earlier, the better.

If you're in town and want to be close to the shopping, check out the Sofitel Los Angeles. Think of it this way--you won't have to fight for a parking spot.

Insider Tip:If you can swing it, get a parking spot near the escalators on the sides of the building. Depending on which side of the garage you enter, you will either be dropped off near Bloomingdale's or near Macy's. Whatever you do, do not take the elevators. They are slow and packed. Not recommend for claustrophobics or impatient people.

Hidden Gem for Foodies--Silky Smooth (none / 0)

Frozen Dessert fanatics who wander to the 7th floor on the Macy's side will find nirvana in a MicroCreamery called Silky Smooth Ultra Creamery! So fresh it's made in microbatches on display...So tasty that the flavors & textures are superior to artisan gelato, and so healthy they are all-natural, low fat, and a daily flavor selection that includes sugar-free vanilla & chocolate, fat-free/dairy-free whole fruit sorbettos, and a magical Organic 7-Live-Culture "SilkySlim" Frozen Yogurt that is NOT low-grade soft-serve (like Pinkberry), but an ultra-premium luxury experience that is light-years ahead of the current faux-gurt mania gripping LA.
