Runners love carbs, but they also love to eat healthy, especially the night before a race. Maybe that's why so many of them line up at Laughing Planet the night before they line up at the start. The cheap eats spot is open every day until 10 and the restaurant's expert kitchen knows how to whip up some killer organic and veggie fare. The burritos are fresh and the salsa's homemade. Plus there's made to order smoothies and daily specials like Cuban rice bowls and made-for-a-meal salads. It's no fancy sit down place, but it is a Portland classic and perfect for pre-race grubbing.
At the end of the race--and, we suspect, after a few of the city's local brews--runners could've kicked back at Bluebird Guest House, the perfect home away from home. Its seven guest rooms are warm and cozy. Plus, it's just big enough to host an entire relay team. It's large social rooms are great for talking strategery before race day or just chatting up other guests. And the Bluebird offers free Internet access for checking race times the morning after. Best of all? It's even got laundry service for those sweaty running shorts.
