JetBlue CEO Talks Pre-Cancellation With Matt Lauer

August 20, 2007 at 11:54 AM | 2 Comments

JetBlue CEO Dave Barger sat down with the Today Show's Matt Lauer this morning to rehash the Valetine's Day delays, talk about Hurricane Dean's possible airline impact, and find out how JetBlue was going to help course correct the Summer of Flight Delays.

Matt was actually quite the pit bull during the interview. Of course, we would have rather seen a fully caffeinated Greenberg go up against Barger, but we will take what we can get.

Lauer Barger interaction wrap up is here.

Lauer: Hurricane Dean is coming, can you get stranded tourists out of Cancun?

Barger: Yes, we have been able to get many people out in advance of the coming storm.

Lauer: JetBlue cancelled 1700 flights during what we call the St. Valentine's Day massacre -- what have you learned?

Barger: When mother nature is going to win, we have to shut the airline down.

Lauer: Did JetBlue grow too big too fast?

Barger: We grew 30% a year for a while, this year we expect to grow 10% - 12%.

Lauer: What would you like to see passengers do differently?

Barger: Have a little more awareness -- patience and understanding. Mother nature is going to win sometimes.

That is our quick and dirty take on the interview. Barger basically stressed JetBlue would be doing a lot of pre-cancelling this coming winter. So expect to do plenty of travel dancing, however, it may be better than sitting in the gate waiting area for hours on end.

I only know how to spell David Neeleman. Fixed now. Thanks for pointing that out.
