This week's book is useful for any trip you'll take, no matter the duration, destination, or purpose. But when our mom (Hi, Mom!) whipped it out before our first trip to Europe, we thought she was crazy. "Silly Mom! Everyone knows how to pack, you don't need a book to teach you." Then we lugged 85 pounds (approximately) of clothing through the Tube and to Derbyshire, and back.
You win, Mom. Because while we thought we didn't need to be exposed to three different ways to fold suitcase-bound clothes, or extensive lists of things to possibly include in our travel toiletries kids, we were so wrong. The tips in this book saved us from lotion-covered pajamas, overstuffed duffels and the nightmare of packing black shoes to go with that navy-blue skirt. You think you know How to Pack, but we're still using the tricks from this book, from the value of a plastic bag to the secret way to store your unmentionables. (Hint: inside your shoes!)

Let's face it, there are times when you just can't travel -- or don't want to. Vicarious web travel can be a great supplement to boots-on-the-ground journeys, and we should know, right? However, our wise elders keep talking about these things called "books", so we decided to check out these paper dinosaurs a bit, and guess what, they aren't all a waste of time. Some of them are quite good.
