Tiger Wood's announced he will design his first American golf course at The Cliffs at High Carolina. The course would be Woods' first design in the United States. His design company is building one in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, that will be ready for play in 2009.
Tiger says:
I chose The Cliffs at High Carolina because of the great people and the amazing location. I'm really looking forward to making it a premier destination to share with my friends and family.
Walking is integral to golf, and it will be very unique to have a walking golf course at elevations up to 4,000 feet.
The course will be located off Interstate 40 in Fairview -- map here. This corridor connecting Asheville, North Carolina to Greenville, South Carolina features fourteen state parks, three national forests, and one national park. AVL in Ashville will be the closest airport, however, GSP in Greenville South Carolina will offer more daily flights to Carolina.
Tiger and his partners have not set an opening date yet, but expect the course to debut in two or three years and quickly become a popular golf travel destination.
