Shopping in SoCal: South Coast Plaza

July 3, 2007 at 11:20 AM | 0 Comments

When people ask for tips on things to do in the Southern California area, we can't help but suggest places to shop. Living in the land of the materialistic, it's kind of hard not to shop here. Also, there are a lot of malls and shopping centers here in SoCal. Way more than in Jersey. Or so it seems.

Anyways, thanks to our excellent mall training at an early age we can assure you that a visit to the South Coast Plaza mall in Costa Mesa, is a must-stop. For starters, this is where Marissa Cooper of The O.C. got nabbed for stealing some makeup, so you know it's a hot spot. Furthermore, this place has luxury stores galore but it also has a huge merry go-round in one wing.

MORE

The stores at South Coast are a mix of your everyday mall favorites--Gap, Abercrombie, Bath & Body Works--with high-end stores like Baccarat, Botega Veneta, Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Escada. (FYI: These are just a few that we have named here.) Then the mall has specialty stores like Barneys New York Co-Op, John Varvatos, Kiehl's and Paul Frank. For the New York set they even have a Tory Burch and a Calypso store.

As for department stores, the place has Bloomingdales, Macy's, Nordstrom's,  Saks Fifth Avenue and randomly, a Sears. There's also 37 restaurants, including a Morton's Steakhouse. Not too shabby huh? In total, the mall boasts about 280 retail stores that take up about 2.8 million square feet, making it a shopper's paradise. Now, if only they had a Neiman Marcus....

Should you come to South Coast plaza ready and willing to do some hard-core shopping, you may want to book a night at the Westin South Coast Plaza next door. The hotel is actually connected to the mall via a pedestriam bridge. If you book their Summer Shopping package you get a $100 gift card to the mall which certainly helps a bit. Room rates start at $359.

Or if you want to save even more money, you could try to sleep over inside South Coast a la Mannequinn-style.
