WTF is the Alden B. Dow House?

July 17, 2007 at 3:56 PM | by jnaw | 0 Comments

Welcome to Where To Find, our growing guide to those little-known places that never seem to show up on the travel radar--until now. We're not saying they're undiscovered, but you may need to look 'em up on our WTF Map.

MORE

Fans of architecture and history know about Frank Loyd Wright and his world-famous Fallingwater. But lesser-known Alden B. Dow, a friend of Wright's who studied at Columbia University, created homes, studios, and offices in a similar style.

Artists who subscribe to the clean lines and organic balance that Wright is most recognized for can tour Dow's home in the small town of Midland, Michigan and avoid the lines and the crowds of Fallingwater, while still gaining insight into the life of a master.

The Dow house hosts events, educational tours, and occasional drawing and art classes. And tours include a look at more than just the work of Alden B. Dow, but a glimpse into his life as well.

And for those who still want more, the Midland Center for the Arts offers audio for self-guided architectural driving tours that highlight some of his greatest accomplishments in residential and commercial design within Midland city limits.
